EXAMPLE

The example
on which I am going to explain the S.I.P.O.C diagram is “The Process of Paper
manufacturing”.

A PRELIMINARY LIST
OF CUSTOMERS FOR THE PRODUCT (ACCORDING TO MY EXAMPLE)

·
OFFICES

·
SCHOOLS

·
COLLEGES

·
UNIVERSITIES

·
STUDENTS

·
TEACHERS

·
GOVERNMENT
OFFICIALS

·
These
are the primary users/customers who make use of paper daily in their day to day
life. Paper is used everywhere, from schools to colleges/universities, in
offices, it is used by students, teachers, officials etc. It has wide variety
of applications in various sectors.

·
I
am going to depict these primary customers under the “Customer” section of my
S.I.P.O.C diagram.

S.I.P.O.C diagram
showing my example in detail

This diagram
shows the quick view of how paper is manufactured, what is the process of
making paper, what is the output of that, who are the suppliers and customers
of the product. The whole process goes from step 1 to step 5.

Comparison of the customers
identified in the SIPOC with the original list

After making
the S.I.P.O.C diagram, I realized that I have to add few things in the list
when I compared my S.I.P.O.C diagram with the original S.I.P.O.C. Initially, I
just added paper in the “Output” but after comparison I included unused paper
under the same section because some paper may have left unused that’s why I
included it. Also, in the “Customer” section I added “Paper waste” and
“Recycled paper”. Waste paper is thrown into green bin from where it goes for
recycling and from there the paper manufacturing companies/book/magazine making
industries use that recycled paper for making products according to their use.

Other than the
above customers, paper is also used in a number of ways by packaging
industries, food industries etc. Overall, S.I.P.O.C is one of the best tools to show the
overview of an activity or a process.
