The National Honor Society is an organization that recognizes outstanding high school students. I would be excited to join NHS because of the many opportunities it would offer me. It would offer me opportunities to to grow as a person and a chance to help my community. In my years academic career, I have shown great examples of scholarship, leadership, character and service that I believe would qualify me to join such an organization. I consider myself to have the quality of scholarship because I always aim to push myself and be the best in everything I do. I make sure to take classes that will challenge me and make me think. I have taken a honors class, an AP class, and eight PreAP classes while in high school, and I aim to continue taking rigorous classes so I can reach my intellectual potential. I have also had all A’s since freshman year and currently have a GPA of 4.52, which demonstrates my eagerness to perform at the highest level I can. I believe that all students should challenge themselves and do the best they can in everything. My achievements are a reflection of my hard work and assurance that my membership in NHS is another step that will allow me to achieve success and cherish the chances of being a leader. School is one of the places where my leadership qualities are valued as I often take the lead within every PBL group I have been with. Being a leader in my PBL groups gives me the opportunity to work in a team and consider my peers’ ideas to make a project that comes from diversity of ideas and still has a sense of unity. My personal traits help me to gain trust and respect from my peers as they believe me to be positive, open-minded, and reliable. I have grown to learn how to solve problems within people of different personalities because of this great experience of leadership. I am always helping fellow classmates with understanding different concepts and instructions when it is needed. I also show leadership within the initiative I take to lead different activities. For example, I co-founded the FLO-Champions club that allows members to share their knowledge and experiences with other students about summer programs they’ve attended, and encourage and guide them to create their own experiences by participating in a Fantastic Learning Opportunity (FLO) offered by Discover U. Additionally, I take pride in standing out from the crowd and demonstrating my unique qualities. For example, last year, I was invited to attend the HERWORLD17 Conference by Pink Petro and voted by peers as the best overall person. I am not only a leader school activities, but I also bring my passions to lead and help to my community. One example of this is my role as a chosen cross-examination coach for the National Hispanic Institute’s Houston region, where I train students in the debate category cross-examination for National Hispanic Institute’s freshman program the Great Debate. This position allows me to use the things I learned when I was a participant in the Great Debate and pass it on to a younger generation and inspire them to think and discuss problems within their own ethnic community. I am not only a leader, but I also give back and play an active role in the communities I lie within, whether it be my church, school, or local community. For example,I volunteered at Summer Bridge Camp for incoming freshman to give them someone who they can turn to. I always volunteer after school for events whenever I can. I spent this past summer volunteering at my local hospital, where I helped nurses by filing papers, writing get well cards, and answering phones. I also volunteer at my church and help facilitate events that they hold. Volunteering is an experience that has helped me build character and become a better person. I look forward to continuing my volunteer work in the future because I think that it is my social responsibility to help and be an uplifting power and example for others, so that our society becomes what we want it to be.Finally, I believe to have a great character because I embrace all ethnicities and celebrate the differences within everyone that ironically bring us closer. I have a positive attitude that comes in handy when communicating with others. I definitely believe in the idea that each person shapes his or her own destiny. This means that I recognize the importance of always doing my best so that I may shape my life into what I want it to be. Therefore I believe that with my skills and experiences, I am a strong candidate for NHS. My academic and communal achievements serve as a proof that my personal qualities and dedication demonstrate the qualities of scholarship, leadership, character, and service necessary to join the NHS.
